The Winternationals, held each February at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, California, kick off NHRA's drag racing season. The 1963 contest's class winners included Bob Muravez in Top Gas, Al Eckstrand in Stock, Tony Nancy in Competition Eliminator, and Don Garlits in Top Fuel. It was the first of 35 NHRA national event titles for "Big Daddy" Garlits.
