Ethel Dinkins (1898-1990), a member of a prominent Black family in Selma, Alabama, was a lifelong lover of music. During the 1920s and 1930s, she taught piano and voice across the South. After Dinkins returned to Selma, she opened her own music school. Among her students were Coretta Scott, who married Martin Luther King, Jr., and Richie Jean Sherrod, who married Sullivan Jackson.
